Looking Closer at Advertisement-Video

The Person: Hyun Jin Cha
The Title: McDonald's Happy Meal Ad Cha Cha Slide (long version)
Purpose: The purpose of this ad is to make people buy McDonald's happy meal.
Target Audience: Young people and children.
Why is this ad effective? This advertisement starts with a family eating hamburgers which gives you that this ad is related to hamburger store. Then, a young boy goes to the family and turns on Cha Cha Slide song. Cha Cha Slide song will get people's attention because they will think how this song is related to hamburgers and the rhythm is funny. Once, people look at this ad, they will see the boy eating potato chips along with the song. The way the boy dance such as trying to look like adults and wearing hat side way, really grabs the audiences and they will watch it until it is finished. At the end, the ad shows that that was McDonalds. But people can also realize that this is McDonalds because there was McDonalds happy meal in front of the boy while he was eating potato chips. I think the boy used in this ad was also effective because his age are the most target audiences which is kid. Also at first, the family was stunned by the boy but as he ate along the song, the father becomes interested in it which shows that when people eat McDonald's happy meal, they will actually become happy.

Lie VS Ask Any Question

If I can either lie or ask any question, I would choose asking questions. I would do this because even though you can lie, you will feel uncomfortable and if the person figures out that you lied, he/she will dislike you. On the other hand, asking questions doesn't make you feel uncomfortable and can get every, single and accurate answer which works like computer.
Another reason for it is because I can bother my parents and friends. :) The way to bother my parents: Asking question when my parents say, "You will know when you grow up," and just ignore me which makes me much more curious and want to get the answer. I know it's kind of mean but I become really, really curious. The way to bother my friends: "Who do you like?".XD
All these facts made me choose that I would rather ask any question than lie.

Jonas's Journal

Oh man, I was really, really, really frightened when The Chief of Elders skipped my turn. But don't freak out because I am assigned as... I mean" selected" as The Memory of Receiver. The good thing is that I can lie, ask any rude question, do not have to tell dreams... BUT!!! I have to go through some "Physical" pain (that is much more painful than crushing your hand) and I have to be apart from my friends. :( The Chief of Elders said that I have intelligence, integrity, courage, wisdom and capacity to see beyond and maybe I should admit about first four elements but not the "capacity to see beyond" skill. Can it be something related to what happened to the apple last time?

CLIO Award Advertisement


Target Audience: People who decide to suicide
  1. Symbolism- It is trying to stop peope who want to suicide.
  2. Body language- 'don't jump' is written on this model. This writing is placed at the top of the bus so that the people on the top of the building can see this writing.
  3. Camera angle- This picture is taken from the top of the building, a vision where people who try to suicide can see.
  4. Specidal effects- First, this ad made all the cars and people look blurry except for the bus that has 'don't jump' on the top to make it look distinctive. Second, 'don't jump' sign is written on a long bus to make the letters big. Last, in my opinion, every letter in 'don't jump' sign is not capitalized which give more offering kind of feeling than ordering.
  5. Lighting and color- The top color of the bus, which is white, and the color of the road, which is balck, are contrast colors which makes the bus distinctive. The letter of 'don't jump' is black color is also contrast to white top of the bus which makes the letter distinguishing.
  6. Beauty and standing- The bus is facing the building so that the people can see the sign clearly.
  7. Target and graphics- It is trying to stop people from suicide by showing 'don't jump' sign on the top of the bus.
